Hematka Ice Cream — The Taste of Coastal Karnataka

Hematka Ice Cream is a highly respected brand in the Indian Ice Cream Industry, renowned for unmatched quality and taste. With its roots in Coastal Karnataka, Hematka Ice Cream has played an important role in establishing Mangaluru as the Ice Cream capital of India.

Founded by the visionary Late Mr. S. Prabhakar Kamath in 1975, our brand had a modest beginning as a single parlour. Established on the tenets of quality, taste, innovation and affordability, we have grown to one of the most loved and valued brands in the ensuing decades.

Today, our distribution footprint covers over 8500 retailers across Karnataka, Kerala and Goa — and we continue to grow.

1975 — The Beginning

S. Prabhakar Kamath

"Hematka Pabba" — the man who turned a humble dream into a coastal legend.

The saga of Hematka Ice Cream began in the early seventies with the establishment of Hematka's right in the heart of Mangaluru by visionary entrepreneur S. Prabhakar Kamath. Despite fierce competition, he taught himself the art of ice cream making — conducting experiments at home, with enthusiastic neighbours as his first tasters.

Three months of groundwork later, he launched Hematka's at Market Road, Mangaluru on May 1, 1975 — starting with 14 flavours. Within two years, Mangaloreans were queuing up just for a chance to savour his creations. History was made.

S. Mukund Kamath
1995 — A New Era

S. Mukund Kamath

The innovator who took Hematka from a beloved parlour to a regional powerhouse.

Mukund Kamath's involvement with Hematka began when he was in 8th standard — spending vacations scooping ice creams, preparing sundaes and milkshakes. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Science from Mangaluru University and has trained at the Central Food Technology & Research Institute, Mysuru, and the National Dairy Research Institute, Bengaluru.

In 2003, he set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and led Hematka's foray into retail distribution. Known for his passion for perfection, Mukund is the brain behind iconic products such as Tiramisu, Marzi Paan, i Pizza and i Thaali — and continues to drive the R&D engine of the brand.
